"All About D.W." is the first half of the third episode in the sixteenth season of Arthur.

Summary[]

When Emily gets the starring role in the preschool play, D.W. is beside herself with jealousy. She should be Little Red Riding Hood, not Tree #2! Undeterred, D.W. appoints herself as Emily's understudy (just in case!). But when the big moment arrives, can D.W. handle the spotlight?

Plot[]

Arthur tells the viewers that "whenever D.W. really, really wants something, there's no telling what she'll do to get it." D.W. comes in to the Reads' den, where Arthur is, acting out the story of Little Red Riding Hood with Grandma Thora. D.W. is not impressed with Arthur's performance as the woodsman, and cries so that he will agree to react the scene better. Arthur then asks the viewers, "See what I mean?"

All About D.W.

After the title card, Ms. Morgan announces the roles for the Little Red Riding Hood play. Timmy is the Big Bad Wolf, Tommy is Grandma, and Emily gets the starring role as Little Red Riding Hood. D.W. gets the role of Tree #2, and is not happy about it.

Later, at home, D.W. talks to Grandma Thora and Arthur about how she wants to have the lead role as Red Riding Hood. Arthur thinks that playing a tree could be "kind of fun," but D.W. disagrees. Grandma Thora then suggests that she could be Emily's understudy, to which Arthur explains that is someone who fills in if an actor gets sick or is unable to come to the play.

D.W. talks to Nadine and brainstorms ways that she could get to be Emily's understudy. Nadine first considers digging a moat around Emily's house. D.W. then imagines herself and Nadine filling up the moat around her house and also adding alligators to it, but D.W. then realizes she is trapped behind the moat, too, as she was on Emily's house's side when it was filled up. After she stops imagining, D.W. comes up with a better idea: there may be something Emily wants to do instead that is at the same time as the play.

At preschool the next day, D.W. tells Emily about a showing of Cat-Arctica that will happen on the same day as the play. While Emily does want to go, she chooses to do the play instead.

That night, D.W. tells Nadine that she had offered many other events to Emily, but she declined all of them. D.W. then thinks that if she cannot find anything that Emily wants, maybe "there's something that Emily does not want."

At preschool, D.W. gives Emily a paper bag mask for her to wear in case she messes up on her lines and wants to hide. Emily crumples up the bag and storms off, surprising D.W. Later, D.W. attempts to be Emily's understudy, repeating everything she is saying even though D.W. is supposed to be Tree #2, but gets in trouble with Ms. Morgan instead.

At Grandma Thora's house, Grandma Thora tells D.W. that she should let Emily enjoy her role, asking D.W. if she would like it if Emily tried to take away something she really wanted. D.W. agrees to apologize to Emily at preschool the next day.

D.W. learns that Emily has lost her voice, and she gets the role of Little Red Riding Hood after all. That night, D.W. has a nightmare about Emily being the Big Bad Wolf, and D.W. ending up forgetting her lines and being given the paper bag mask.

During the play, D.W. is nervous and ends up forgetting her lines. Emily, as Tree #2 instead of D.W., whispers them to her, and D.W. is able to recite them and finish the play. After the play is over, D.W. decides that next time, she will play Tree #2, finding it easier. Everyone cheers, finishing the episode.
