"Best Wishes" is the first half of the fourth episode in the eighteenth season of Arthur.
Summary[]
After George has a lucky streak, his friends pressure him to wish for a snow day. Can George deliver? Or is he out of luck?[3]
Plot[]
George stands on a stage and nervously opens the show. He talks about wishes and several flashbacks show him wishing he could open the show. Arthur tells him that he has ten seconds left. George hurries and barely manages to ask whether it would be a good thing if wishes came true. Then the screen turns dark.
Binky, Buster, Francine and George stand in the school playground and wait for a snowflake. The first person who sees one gets to make a wish and they plan to wish for more snow. Buster catches a piece of lint that looks like a snowflake. He says that you need the right wish and a good wisher. Just as recess ends, George catches an actual snowflake.
When the kids come out of the school in the afternoon, it is snowing. Buster thanks George.
On the way home, Buster claims that George made it snow, but Binky and Francine are skeptical. To test his theory, Buster hands out ripe dandelions to George and the others. They blow and Buster, Binky and Francine wish for snow. George, however, wishes for cupcakes. It does not snow, but around the next corner, a baker hands out complimentary cupcakes.
The next day, when George walks into the school cafeteria, he is treated like a star. Lots of kids want him to make wishes for them. Francine hands George a birthday invitation from Jenna and tells him that Jenna wants him to make her birthday wish and wish for snow. George is not sure that he can do that, but the others claim that he has “wish mojo”.
That night, George dreams that he is a king whose penguin subjects demand snow. George wins a rigged wishbone pulling and wishes for snow, but nothing happens. His friends desert him as the penguins angrily storm the castle.
George tries to leave Jenna's party after giving her a present, but Binky pulls him inside. When George is about to blow out the candles, Prunella comes and informs the kids that making a birthday wish for someone else means bad luck.
Binky, Buster and Francine take George to a frozen fountain and George makes a wish after dropping a coin on the ice.
The next day, the town is covered in snow and school has been closed. All the kids have fun in the snow. George's friends congratulate him. George confesses that he got so flustered at the fountain, that he forgot to wish for snow. However, his friends do not really care why it is snowing, which takes a load off George's back. George says he wished for a great rest of the year and joins the others in a snowball fight.
