Introduction[]
George shyly looks through the curtains into a packed theater.
Arthur: George, go! You're on!
He pushes George on stage.
George: Oh! O-okay.
He waves and begins reading cue cards.
George: Hello. My name is George. Have you ever thought about...?
Arthur looks out of the curtain.
Arthur: Wait!
He taps George’s microphone.
Arthur: Buster! How are we on sound?
Buster: We're good.
Arthur: Sorry about that. You're doing great. Just be yourself.
He disappears.
George: Have you ever thought about wishes? Like when you blow out your birthday candles.
Flashback: George sits in front of a birthday cake holding Wally. His parents and several friends stand and sit around the table.
George: I wish I could open the show.
George blows out all the candles except one.
All: (gasp)
Everyone stares at the candle until Wally blows it out. George smiles.
Flashback: A shooting star flies over the Lundgrens' house. George stands at an upstairs window.
George (narrator): Or... when you wish on a shooting star.
George: I wish I could open the show.
Flashback: George stands in the entrance of the treehouse and blows an eyelash off his finger.
George (narrator): Or when you find an eyelash and blow it off your finger.
George: I wish I could open...
Arthur: Hey, George! You've got ten seconds!
George: What??
The flashback image breaks into splinters. George stands on stage and a digital 0:10 appears beside him and starts counting down.
George: Ten seconds? Ah!
He searches for the cue cards he dropped.
Arthur: Come on, George. Wrap it up!
George: Okay. Um... Have you ever thought that any of those wishes might actually come true? And if they did, would that be a good th...?
The screen suddenly turns black except for George’s eyes and the 0:00.
Title Card: George, Buster and Binky at the frozen fountain[]
One day in January, Binky, Francine and Buster are looking up at the sky. George slides down the jungle gym and joins them.
George: Hey, guys.
Binky: Hey!
Francine: Hey, George.
Buster: Hiya.
George looks up at the sky as well.
George: Is the sky falling?
Francine: We're waiting for a snowflake.
George: Why?
Buster: Because whoever sees the first snowflake gets to make a wish.
George: Oh! What will you wish for?
Binky: More snow, of course.
Buster: There! I see one.
Something white is floating down.
Buster: I call it! I call it!
Buster, Binky and Francine run towards it and Buster catches it in his mitten.
Buster: (sighs) False alarm. I think it's just alien dandruff.
Francine: (chuckles) More like a piece of lint.
Binky: It's all a bunch of nonsense, anyway. Wishes never come true.
George looks peeved. The bell rings and the kids head back to the school.
Buster: Yes, they do! You just need the right thing to wish on and a good wisher to do the wishing. Right, Francine?
Francine holds the door open for the others.
Francine: Beats me. I've been wishing for a pony since I was four. But every birthday I just get more socks.
She lets go off the door when George reaches it. When George opens the door, he sees an actual snowflake falling.
George: (gasps) A-a snowflake!
He catches it and briefly closes his eyes.
George: Guys? Guys!
George runs down a school corridor.
George: I saw one! Guys, I saw one! I made the wish! Guys?
The corridor is deserted. Mr. Ratburn looks out of a door.
Mr. Ratburn: Ahem!
***
The school bell rings at 3 o’clock. The kids come out and see that it is snowing.
Kids: Hooray!
Francine catches snowflakes with her tongue.
Francine: Mm! Snow!
Binky: Woohoo!
Buster: Nice wishing, George.
George: Huh? Oh. Thanks, I guess.
***
Binky, Buster and Francine walk home from school. The snow has stopped.
Binky: I'm telling you, wishing is all a load of hooey.
Buster: No, it isn't. He wished for snow and it snowed.
Francine: Yeah. But none of it stuck.
They pass by Grandma Thora’s house. Killer is barking in the window.
Binky: Besides, wishing for snow in January is like wishing for a pop quiz in Mr. Ratburn's class. It's bound to happen sooner or later.
They pass by a clothes store downtown.
Francine: Yeah. You said it.
Buster notices four ripe dandelions growing in a sidewalk crack.
Buster: Look! Dandelions! It's a sign.
He picks them.
Francine: A sign of what?
Buster: A sign that we should put my wish theory to the test.
George comes by.
Buster: Here, George. Take this dandelion. We'll make a wish and on the count of three, we'll blow the dandelion fluff.
All four kids hold dandelions.
Buster: Okay, ready? One. Two. Three.
They blow.
Binky+Buster+Francine: I wish for snow!
George: I wish for cupcakes!
Buster: Cupcakes?
George: I'm hungry.
Binky: Okay. No snow. Case closed. Come on, guys. Let's go.
They turn around a corner and come by a bakery.
Binky: (gasps)
The baker stands outside with a tray of cupcakes.
Baker: Grand opening! Rudolph Stumplemeyer's cupcake extravaganza! Get your complimentary cupcakes!
The kids stare at George.
***
The next day, Francine, Binky and Muffy sit in the cafeteria.
Binky: At first, I thought he had rigged it somehow. But there was no way. How could he have put the dandelions there?
Francine: And he wished for cupcakes! Who wishes for cupcakes?
Muffy: I wish for cupcakes all the time.
She throws a bread roll from her tray aside.
Muffy: Besides, why was it only George's wish that came true? You all blew on the dandelions.
Binky: Buster says it's because George has... wish mojo.
Muffy: Wish mojo? That's ridiculous!
Buster escorts George into the cafeteria.
Buster: Step aside! Give the boy room!
Jack: Would you wish on my rabbit's foot?
Alex: I need an A in Geography!
Nancy: I want a jet pack.
Buster: This way, George. Have a seat.
George sits down. Francine and Binky come over.
George: Comfy? Can I get you a pillow?
She puts an arm around him.
Binky: Want my pudding?
George: Erm... No, thanks. Well... okay.
Binky: Attaboy!
Buster: So, Jenna's birthday is this weekend.
George: Oh, really?
Francine: She really wants you to come to her party.
She hands George an invitation.
Binky: And she wants you to make her birthday wish.
George: What?? I can't do that!
Buster: Sure, you can. She wants snow as much as we do.
Binky: And not a few flurries this time. A big snow!
Francine: School-closing snow.
George: Wait a minute. What if that cupcake thing was just a coincidence?
Buster: Oh, ye of little faith!
Francine: George, you'll do fine. You've got wish mojo.
Binky snatches a pudding from Ladonna’s tray as she walks past.
Binky: Here. Have another pudding. Big snow. Got it?
George looks uncomfortably at the invitation.
***
That night, George lies in bed. He dreams of penguins surrounding an ice palace and squawking angrily. Inside, George sits on a throne. Buster is his jester, while Binky and Francine are guards.
George: Those penguins sound angry.
Buster: Oh, they are. It's been months without snow. If kids get upset without snow, imagine how penguins feel.
He walks to the entrance.
Buster: Be calm, angry penguins. George the wisher king will grant your wish! Lower the royal wish bone!
Francine uses a winch to lower a giant wishbone over a pit in the ground. Binky saws a notch in one end.
Binky: All ready, sire.
Buster grabs the end with the notch while George grabs the other end.
Francine: Pull!
Buster’s end breaks and he falls backwards.
Buster: Whoa! Oof! His Majesty wins! Okay, you're up.
George: I wish for snow!
They look through a window at the sky. Outside, the penguins look up too.
Penguin 1: Where's the snow?!
Penguin 2: You lied to us!
Penguin 1: Get him!
The penguins advance on the palace.
Penguins: (squawk angrily)
Buster: (fast:) It's been a pleasure serving you. I hereby resign.
Everyone except George runs away. The penguins come closer.
George: No! It's not my fault! It's not my fault!
The dream ends. George wakes up.
George: It's not my fault!
He realizes that he has been dreaming.
***
George rings Jenna’s door with a present.
George: Happy birthday, Jenna. Really sorry I can't stay, but I think I have a cold.
Binky walks past Jenna.
Binky: There he is!
Francine: The boy of the hour!
Binky pulls George in.
Binky: I've been keeping your seat nice and warm.
***
In the living room, George sits in front of the cake, while Francine, Muffy, Jenna, Arthur, Binky and Maria sit or stand around him.
Buster: Try to get them all out on one blow. It's more powerful that way.
George: And remember... no cupcakes!
George: (gulps) Well, okay. (draws breath)
The door is heard and Prunella comes in.
Prunella: Wait!! What are you doing?! You can't give a birthday wish to someone else!
George: You can't?
He looks relieved.
Prunella: No! It's terrible luck. Don't tell me you've never heard the ancient rhyme: "Snuff the candle on another's cake and endless misery ye shall make."
Binky: No.
Buster: We must have missed that one.
Francine: Never.
George: Well, there's nothing for me to wish on now. So I guess that's that.
He tries to leave, but Buster holds him back.
Buster: Wait! There's one more thing we can try.
***
George, Buster and Binky stands around a fountain downtown. George tries to put a coin through the ice.
George: But the water's frozen. We should come back when it thaws.
Francine joins them and puts away her cellphone.
Francine: Thanks, Prunella. She says the wish should come true, as long as the coin stays on the ice.
Buster: All right, George. It's time. Make snow!
George throws up a quarter. It hits the ice and rolls on it towards the edge.
Binky+Buster: (gasp)
The coin reaches the edge.
Francine: (gasps)
The coin rolls back and drops on the ice.
Binky: Wish!
Buster: Quick!
George: Er... er...
He closes his eyes and wishes before the coin stops moving.
All: (relieved sighs)
Binky: Nice work, George.
Francine: Yeah, great throw!
Buster: Now, all we have to do is wait.
George: Phew!
They leave.
***
The next morning, George’s alarm beeps at 7:00.
George: (yawns, gasps)
He opens the window and sees that the ground is covered with snow.
***
Later, the kids play in the park. Molly and James ride a toboggan, D.W. and Bud have a snowball fight. Ladonna rides a sled. Bailey holds an umbrella over Muffy who takes pictures with her cellphone until a snowball hits her. Ladonna, Arthur and Buster make snow angels.
Binky: (laughs) George? There he is! Hey, George!
He pulls George in a bearhug that lifts him off the ground.
George: Gah!
Binky: You did it! You made snow!
Francine: School-closing snow!
Buster: I knew you could do it!
George: (struggles) But...I didn't do it.
Binky drops him.
George: Oof!
Binky: That's what I like about you, George. You're so modest.
George: No. I mean it. I didn't wish for snow. I-I got all flustered when the coin was going to roll off and... well... I forgot to.
Buster: Then how do you explain all this?
George: Erm... because it's winter?
Francine: Who cares why it snowed? I'm just glad it did. Snowball fight!
She throws a snowball which Binky catches.
Binky: It's okay. We've been putting a lot of pressure on you. From now on, you can wish for whatever you want. So long as it's what I want, too. (laughs)
He makes a snowball and runs after Francine.
Buster: You really didn't wish for snow?
George: Nope.
Buster: So what did you wish for?
George: A great rest of the year.
Buster: Huh. Well, you know what? I bet you it comes true. Snowball fight!
He runs after the others. A snowball hits George.
George: Oof!
He sees Francine ducking behind a snowdrift.
George: Oh, yeah? Two can play at that game!
He throws a snowball at Francine, but misses.
Francine: (laughs)
Binky: (laughs)
