D.W.'s Guide to Perfect Manners (later reissued for paperback as D.W. Says Please and Thank You) is a D.W. series book written and illustrated by Marc Brown, and published by Little, Brown and Company in April, 2006 (paperback reissue April 19, 2011).
Plot
Arthur challenges D.W. that she can't show perfect manners for a day, so she sets out to prove him wrong. She goes about her day demonstrating good manners, and narrating this for readers. In the morning, she gets dressed and brushes her hair so that she looks her best. She also picks up her toys, noting that keeping your room clean "freaks out your parents... in a good way!"
At school, she demonstrates behaviors such as taking turns and sharing. She also states that it's not nice to be bossy, and that sometimes she has trouble with this. She comments that she doesn't grab things - "...like some people I know. The Tibble Twins need serious help!" She shows that if she does something like burping, farting, or sneezing, she just says "excuse me, please." "Even Arthur likes me then."
Back at home, she washes her hands before dinner. She notes that at night, it's not nice to complain about brushing your teeth or taking a bath, and that you can have fun playing while you're getting clean. She is depicted holding a toy mermaid in one hand and a rubber duckie in another, in an overflowing bath, splashing Pal and Mrs. Read. She comments that sometimes she plays a little too hard.
At bedtime, instead of complaining about going to bed, her parents read her bedtime stories. She ends by saying that manners are cool and they give you magical powers.
