"D.W. Swims with the Fishes" is the second half of the sixth episode in the thirteenth season of Arthur.
Summary[]
D.W. and James enter the preschool swim meet and recruit their older siblings to coach them. It all goes well until Arthur and Molly begin to get more competitive than D.W. and James.
Plot[]
Arthur walked through the arcade, confiding in the audience that even the nicest people can lose control. He cited Brain as an example, noting his usual niceness. Brain, engrossed in a pinball machine called Quark Lord, ignored Francine and Muffy's pleas to give them a turn at the game. He was about to beat his high score when Buster entered, to inform them that they were giving free popcorn. Buster tripped on the machine's cord, accidentally unplugging it and causing Brain to lose his game. Brain, devastated, let out a growl, while Buster nervously offered popcorn and then a fruit roll. Brain's frustration boiled over, and he began chasing Buster around the arcade. Arthur, having observed the commotion, noted to the audience how ridiculous it was to make such a fuss over a little game, as Buster's screams and Brain's groan about six months of allowance down the drain echoed through the arcade.
D.W. is at the community pool, swimming. She is soon joined by James and the two win again. James notifies D.W. he sped up after he saw Timmy behind him. The lifeguard then tells the kids she has news for them. D.W. tells her mom that they are having a swim meet and she wants to win it.
At the public pool, Arthur and D.W. are there and see James with his older sister, Molly. As D.W. and James are swimming, Arthur talks to Molly and Molly tells him that she was forced into this and wishes that no one sees her.
Soon, D.W. and James get into an argument over whose lane they are in and they start splashing each other. Arthur and Molly break up the tiff; however, they are not done with one another yet.
Arthur and D.W. go to the store to get a new swimsuit for D.W. and end up seeing James and Molly there. Arthur then chooses another swimsuit for D.W. Early in the morning, Arthur wakes D.W. up to start practicing.
At the public pool, Arthur is busy waiting for D.W. to get dressed into the proper swimsuit when Molly appears and she and Arthur act surprised to see each other there early in the morning. When D.W. and James finally come out after dressing in their swimsuits, they are wearing almost identical swimsuits.
When they try swimming in their swimsuits, they sink to the bottom of the pool, only to have Arthur and Molly rescue them. Arthur and Molly then continue training their siblings.
At preschool, D.W. tells James her hands are pruney and James still has his earplug in from the morning swim and says he will be glad when tomorrow's race will be over. D.W. tells him she would wish him luck, but she wishes herself good luck.
At the day of the race, D.W. and James are encouraged by their older siblings to win and the race starts. D.W. and James have the lead and James then gets stuck. D.W. frees James and they continue racing. Emily, however, becomes the winner of the race and D.W. and James come in second.
D.W. and James are given second-place trophies. They hand the trophies over to their older siblings and they go back in for a swim. Molly tells Arthur that she felt she had won an award for Jerk of the Year and Arthur says to her that they had tied. Molly suggests they buy their younger siblings banana splits.
