Diogenes of Sinope was a Greek philosopher and one of the founders of Cynic philosophy (from kynikos––doglike). He carried a lamp and told people that he was looking an honest man.
In the intro of "To Tibble the Truth," he searches the world with a lamp and a dog. He asks an Arthur-lookalike whether he is an honest man, but the boy's sister, Delta Omega, accused the boy of stealing her snowball. She then points Diogenes to a cave where he finds the Tibbles, who claim to be honest, but break his lamp. Diogenes wishes that he had searched for the meaning of life instead.
