Spanky was D.W.'s pet parakeet who passed away in the episode "So Long, Spanky." This was his first and only appearance in the series.

It is not known what had caused Spanky’s passing, although it may have been purely coincidental, as some species of parakeet have been known for short lifespans of 5-8 years. Alternatively it may have been due to poor care, as he lived in a much smaller cage that a real parakeet would need, with none of the necessary enrichments.

Before he passed away, Spanky was shown to not like Arthur for unknown reasons. Arthur only liked him when his beak is closed. At Spanky's funeral, Arthur admitted that he was going to miss him and his parents said that they would never forget his songs or the time he got loose in the kitchen and didn't eat any seeds.

Spanky was mentioned in "Sick as a Dog".

Spanky is also shown in D.W.'s imagination as a bald eagle in "I'd Rather Read It Myself."

He was mentioned by Arthur in "Listen Up!" when he gives Francine a card from D.W.

Appearance[]

Spanky was a parakeet that was light blue on top and dark blue on the lower part of his body, and his beak and feet were yellow.
