The Grey Dove is a fictional villain appearing in several of Fern's detective stories. He is the archenemy of Virgule Watteau, Bastings, and Annabelle Fauteuil and is also a lookalike of Binky.

Biography[]

The Grey Dove is an accomplished gentleman thief, who likes to leave one of his gloves at the scene of a crime, like when he steals the Sapphire of Maharajapoor from a museum in "The Trouble With Trophies". He hides within the museum, but Annabelle Fauteuil finds him before he can get away.

In "Fern and the Case of the Stolen Story", the Grey Dove steals Bingo prizes for Aunt Sable in exchange for ponchos. Watteau and Bastings capture Sable, but the Grey Dove gets away and later steals Polly the parrot from Cyrus the clown. This time, Watteau captures him.

In "The Case of the Girl with the Long Face", George and Buster suspect the Grey Dove (respectively Binky) of causing Fern's sadness. In fact, they were jogging together to improve Fern's mood.

In "Dueling Detectives", the Grey Dove is hired by Bastings to find the missing dummy Wallace. Watteau suspects the Grey Dove of stealing it himself.

Physical Appearance[]

He is a yellow bulldog with a black tophat, a purple bowtie, a powder blue waistcoat, white gloves with the letter D on them, a black cape, and also a dark grey suit. He looks just like Binky but with a curly mustache. In the first story he didn't understand Virgule Watteau's accent, so he misheard "hunch" for "oonch".
