Lance Armstrong 2009

Lance Edward Armstrong (born September 18, 1971) is an American former professional road racing cyclist. He turned professional in 1992 and competed until 2012.

Cancer[]

In late 1996, he was diagnosed with advanced testicular cancer. After several operations and chemotherapy, he was declared cancer-free in February 1997. That same year, he founded the Lance Armstrong Foundation (renamed Livestrong Foundation in 2012) to support people with cancer.

Career[]

In 1998, he started competing again and became one of the most successful bicycle racers ever. He is especially famous for winning the Tour de France seven times between 1999 and 2005. His success greatly increased the popularity of bicycle racing in the United States.

Doping[]

After facing allegations of doping for most of his career, Armstrong was eventually charged by the USADA in 2012 and was stripped of all titles from 1998 onwards.

On Arthur[]

Lance Armstrong voiced himself in "Room to Ride," where he talks about bike racing, and in "The Great MacGrady," where he talks about surviving cancer. A parody of Armstrong, called Vance Legstrong, appeared earlier in "Binky vs. Binky."

All three episodes were pulled from circulation by PBS following the doping scandal. A remake of "The Great MacGrady" replaces Armstrong with the fictional Uncle Slam Wilson.
