The violinist is a character in a story which Ethel Saperstein tells to Francine Frensky in "Arthur and the Haunted Tree House". The story is later revealed to be part of an elaborate Halloween prank.
According to Mrs. Saperstein, the violinist lived in her hometown of Mindelplatz when she was a little girl. He played so well that he could make dead flowers come to life. One day, his hands were crushed in a trolley accident and he could not longer play. He became bitter and turned to magic. He learned how to make a golem from a book and brought it to life with his broken violin. He could not control the creature and it rampaged through town.
