Neil Gaiman is a real-life British author. He appears in the episode "Falafelosophy" voiced by himself. Sue Ellen meets him at a book reading for his book Instructions. He suggests that she write a graphic novel and gives her the graphic novel version of his book Coraline as a gift. He appears two more times in Sue Ellen's fantasy and once in real life. Each time he gives her advice on writing and encourages her.
