RadioTimes[]
Sue Ellen is dismissive about maths until she runs into a problem her artistic vision cannot solve.[6]
Plot[]
During math class, Sue Ellen claims that she needs to use the bathroom. In the hallway, she confesses to the audience that neither she nor her parents are math persons. They hang up pictures by eye and bake muffins using trial and error. The only place where they cannot avoid math is math class.
Ms. Bryan announces an art club project. Every student is supposed to put a piece of art in a place at school where it has a particular meaning. Thanks to a successful bake sale, every student gets 15 dollars for the project.
Prunella plans to paint edible creatures from a Henry Skreever book and hang them in the cafeteria. Sue Ellen has no inspiration yet, though Prunella tells her that she is very artistic. While using the drinking fountain, Sue Ellen is inspired to paint wild animals drinking under a waterfall.
While buying material for their projects, Sue Ellen talks to Prunella about being an art person and not a math person. Prunella retorts that Sue Ellen got a good grade on a math test, but Sue Ellen says that she had to study hard for it. Sue Ellen correctly estimates both the price of her purchases and the time she has left until dinner, but dismisses the idea that this is using math. Prunella believes that there is no such thing as "not a math person".
The next day, Prunella tries to convince Sue Ellen that she is a math person. She tells Sue Ellen that in order to be on time for school, she had to determine how long it would take her to get there. However, Mrs. Armstrong drove her.
Prunella points out Sue Ellen's combination lock, but it uses letters.
Prunella claims that Sue Ellen is measuring the space for her painting, but Sue Ellen is only eyeballing it.
Finally, Prunella argues that Sue Ellen had to mix red and yellow to make orange, but Sue Ellen is in fact using pre-made orange. Sue Ellen is also getting annoyed. Prunella insists that everyone is a math and art person.
The next morning, Sue Ellen learns from Muffy that the fountain has been moved due to a pipe leak. There is now less room on the wall above it. Sue Ellen imagines Ms. Bryan telling her to cut out one of the animals and the animals arguing which one to cut out. Sue Ellen does not have the heart to do it.
Sue Ellen goes to the art room and sees the colored clay animals that Prunella made. Prunella thinks they are horrible, but Sue Ellen finds them oddly beautiful. When she tells Prunella about the moved fountain, Prunella measures the painting and thr wall and then suggests trimming the sides instead of cutting into the animals.
Later, Sue Ellen shows her trimmed painting to the others, who like it. Muffy has installed a painting of herself in light bulbs donated by Crosswire Motors. Sue Ellen adds a dedication to her painting: "For Prunella Deegan", who taught me we are all math people”. Prunella adds "and art people".
