Near the end of the school year,[1] Mr. Ratburn became an uncle.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
At the time "Desk Wars" was written, it had been established that Nigel Ratburn was single[3] and had exactly one sibling, his sister Rodentia.[4]
Almost 16 years later, "Mr. Ratburn and the Special Someone" retconned both of these facts by introducing another sister, Patty, and showing Nigel getting married during the school year. At the wedding, neither sister is shown to be pregnant and no spouses or babies are mentioned. If one of Nigel's in-laws had a child, that would not explain why his 'sister' called him on the phone in "Desk Wars".
Thus, the canonical status of this niece/nephew is currently unknown.
