"The Chronicles of Buster" is the first half of the fifth episode in the twelfth season of Arthur.
Summary[]
Buster becomes so obsessed with watching "The Chronicles of Ahmayzzia" that he forgoes training for a class rock-climbing expedition.
Plot[]
Buster watches an advertisement for the extended 1001-hour DVD collection of a fantasy series called "The Chronicles of Ahmayzzia", in which a boy named Will Nobody travels to a fantasy country where he meets the elf Endengorn and battles a dragon and the evil Lord Pordrog. The DVD features exclusive bonus content and behind-the-scenes footage.
In the locker room, Buster tells a mildly interested Arthur about the DVDs. They end up being late for gym class. Mr. Ratburn announces they are starting a unit on rock-climbing, and spends the class assessing each student's ability to climb the climbing wall in the gymnasium. When their skill level merits it, they will be going on a field trip to climb Mount Krakhower. Buster is worried, but he turns out to be the only one who gets to the top on the first try.
Buster is paired with Arthur for climbing lessons. At Buster's home while they're watching "Ahmayzzia", Arthur compliments his skills and asks to train together on weekends, but Buster barely pays attention to him. Arthur tells Buster they should go to the gym on Saturdays to practice their rock-climbing. Buster agrees, although he isn't really listening to what Arthur is saying.
A month later, Buster has watched 400 hours of "Ahmayzzia" and missed four Saturday practices, as Arthur angrily informs him over the phone. He eventually goes to practice over an hour late, but keeps talking about "Ahmayzzia" instead of concentrating on Arthur's safety line, nearly causing his friend to fall. Mr. Ratburn tells the boys to get their act together.
Outside, Arthur is irritated with Buster for constantly blowing him off and yells at him for only thinking of "Ahmayzzia" before storming off. Buster is offended and thinks that Arthur is just jealous for not being as good a climber as he is.
Back home while watching the DVDs, Buster falls asleep and dreams that he has fallen into his DVD box and ended up in Ahmayzzia. Endengorn and the other elves believe him to be the chosen one since he has long ears, eight fingers, and can watch eight hours of "Ahmayzzia" without blinking. Buster needs to defeat the evil Lord Arthro, who is turning all the televisions and DVD players in Ahmayzzia to stone. After being given the Crystal Staff, Buster fights Arthro and uses his climbing skills to vaporize his eyes. He then finds out Arthro is in fact Arthur, who did not want the DVDs to get in the way of their friendship. Arthro has teamed up with Mr. Ratburndro, who steals the staff, because Buster neglected him by not being a good partner. Just as they are about to vaporize Buster, Buster wakes up.
Thinking his phone is ringing, Buster frantically answers it and apologizes to Arthur, only to realize it's coming from the DVD commentary, with Will Nobody's actor getting a phone call from his friend. He later visits Arthur, apologizes for acting selfish, and invites him for extra rock climbing practice. Arthur agrees and they reconcile.
At the end of the episode, Arthur successfully climbs Mount Krakhower with Buster's help. When Arthur asks if he misses "Ahmayzzia", Buster admits that he has seen enough of it for a while and would rather see something like the beautiful view from the mountain.
