An early design for the new site.
I have had this idea of a community proposal for a while: moving Arthur Wiki off Wikia. I have found a host willing to make this happen, Grifkuba. They have hosted various wikis for 10 years, such as WiKirby, Fire Emblem, and WikiBound.
This is a very big leap for the wiki and will improve it for the community. There are many advantages to having a self-hosted domain:
- Decisions will be made as a community, instead of being made by Fandom with us having no say.
- The Wikipedia-style layout allows for less adspace and more flexibility in design.
- All content from the Wikia site, including articles, images, and categories, will be moved to the new wiki.
- The new site will be more of a "wiki" than a "fandom," with the removal of social media-esque features like article comments (which will be replaced by similar “talk pages”) and message walls, which can help reduce spam.
- Fan content can still exist on userpages and sub-pages, as an alternative to user blogs.
The Wikia site will still remain open for editing, and the Grifkuba staff will make sure the move goes as smoothly as possible. Information about Grifkuba and their hosting can be found here.
