The WGBH Educational Foundation (Now the GBH Educational Foundation as of 2020) is the collective name of most of WGBH's divisions founded to promote education through televised and later online mediums primarily in the U.S. WGBH's departments range from documentary productions, websites for most PBS and PBS Kids shows, including their interactive educational media, and closed captioning for various PBS programs along with television series produced by other media companies such as FOX's The Simpsons. The foundation drew great attention to children's media during the 1990s, advent of new children's shows, networks and the release of Arthur in 1996. The foundation's online work department maintained the Arthur PBS website since its launch in the late 1990s. WGBH's educational foundation would be the first to provide audio description for the visually impaired on television series with Arthur in 1997. In 2024, a similar program, but with American Sign Language was launched and would see the translation of select episodes of PBS Kids shows, including Arthur.

With technological improvements in website building resources, the foundation would launch more interactive online material for Arthur and other PBS Kids shows, such as online games. Public programs based on Arthur were also launched, such as the AIM Buddy Project in the 2010s. Shortly after the cancellation of Arthur in 2022, the foundation would assist in the production of The Arthur Podcast.

As an alternative to using promotional material provided by Marc Brown in the 1990s and Cookie Jar Entertainment in the 2000s, the foundation's art and website design team would also incidentally distribute promotional material for use by the website and PBS stations, such as pngs of the characters (mostly created for PBS Kids website games) and coloring pages. This role has largely been replaced by 9 Story Media Group since the 2010s, who took over the production of assets for online interactive material.
